Find out how Canadians will finally gain a national women’s soccer league when its co-founder, Canadian soccer star Diana Matheson, gives an overview of the women’s soccer industry, how she and her co-founders decided to build in Canada, and where they are going next. Set to kick off in 2025, the league has already secured teams in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary, with plans for five more. Diana will explain how the league will spark momentum for professional women’s sports in Canada, provide more opportunity for young players, and create a major role for women at the ownership level.
An outstanding player for Canada’s Women’s National Soccer Team from 2003 to 2020, the now-retired midfielder was a member of two bronze medal Olympic soccer teams and represented Canada over 200 times. Her experience and enthusiasm have drawn interest in the league from across the country. “We’ve found just so many people want to help and so many people want to make this happen,” she says.
