In Memoriam – Laura Baldwin
Remembering Laura Baldwin
With profound sorrow we share with you that the Academy has lost one of its greatest friends.
Long-time member Laura Baldwin died peacefully on Sunday May 23, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her children Judy, Tricia and Andrew. As many of you knew, Laura had been battling cancer for some time. With characteristic resolution, she chose her time of leaving with the aid of MAID (medical assistance in dying). Aged 92, after receiving excellent palliative care at her home, she was content that she had led a full and wonderful life.
An obituary notice will be published in The Globe and Mail on Saturday May 29; a fuller appreciation of Laura’s life will follow in the next issue of the Academy Quarterly Review.
In the meantime, we remember a woman of great intelligence and wit who participated fully in all aspects of Academy life: as a committee and Board member, expert workshop facilitator and engaged participant, eager walker in all weathers and cherished friend.
