Spring Talk #4 – May 4th at 10:15 on Zoom
The title of our 4th talk is Black Holes: A “Defense” of Pure Reason. Juna Kollmeier, the first female Director of the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, U. of T., helps us understand the universe through research on the emergence of structure in the universe. She combines cosmological hydrodynamic simulations and analytic theory to figure out how the tiny fluctuations in density, present when the universe was only 300,000 years old, become the galaxies and black holes that we see now, after 14 billion years of cosmic evolution.
