Summary: Islington Murals via Kingsway, Mimico Creek and Montgomery Inn Walk – June 5, 2019
Today I led a group of about 15 on the long walk from Old Mill subway station to the Islington Murals via Kingsway, Mimico Creek and Montgomery Inn. Roma led a group of about 5 on a shorter walk starting at Islington subway station.
This was the fifth walk of the season, and like the other four, the day ahead forecast was for rain but we did not have a drop - the sun even came out very briefly. We seem to be living a charmed life for weather. We hope the weather continues to cooperate perhaps with a little, but not too much, warmth.
One of the pictures shows Mark Abbott and Mike Foss in the Mimico Creek valley - admiring a self portrait?
The group photo is in front of one of the 28 murals that are in Islington Village (Dundas St W between Islington & Kipling). The murals are magnificent and well worth the trip. For some in the group it was their introduction to this portrayal of the history of the neighbourhood while for others it was a pleasant return visit.
All good Academy walks end with a good lunch. About 16 of us enjoyed lunch at the St James Gate Irish Pub.
