Overview

The Special Events and Activities Committee plans, organizes and hosts many different events and activities to socialize and connect in-person (following health protocols) and virtually. These include annual events, lunches, walks, and Clubs.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The AGM is held yearly in June. Registration is required.

Après-Talk Get-Togethers

After the Inspiring Talks on Wednesdays during the fall and winter terms, members can gather for a quick bite, beverage and chat at a local pub or restaurant to socialize or discuss the Talk topic further. The location of the Après-Talk is announced at the Talk and is also provided on the Academy calendar. Typically, the Après-Talk is held at Master’s Buffeteria just upstairs from the Talk at Tartu College. No registration is required.

Facilitators Forum and Volunteer Luncheon

Volunteers and facilitators are the lifeblood of the Academy. Facilitators gather in late April to review the year, discuss best practices, and brainstorm ideas for change and enhancements for the coming academic year. As well, a luncheon is held to celebrate contributions of all Academy volunteers. Invitations are emailed and registration is required.

Holiday Luncheon

The Academy’s annual Holiday Luncheon is held at the conclusion of the fall term workshops, normally at a location near Tartu or on the campus of the University of Toronto. This event requires on-line registration and payment.

New Member Welcome Event

Each September, all new and associate members are invited to a welcome event at Tartu College for an orientation to the Academy. New members have the opportunity to meet other new members and some of the Board members and committee organizers. Topics at the welcome event include: a brief history of the Academy, an orientation to sample workshop presentation techniques, information about clubs, walks and volunteer opportunities, a question-and-answer session, and a tour of the Tartu facilities. Registration details are provided directly to all new members and associates.
