It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Don Cooper. Don might be best described as the finest type of Academy member – interested in different ideas, in discussion with colleagues, and willing to try something new.
The second forum of the season featured six women who met through the Academy, joined the memoir workshop and shared a common cause in writing about their mothers.
Diana Matheson was our first Fall 2023 Forum presenter. Diana is passionate about women`s soccer and her infectious enthusiasm enthralled us with her recounting of the trials and tribulations of pursuing her dream for a Canadian women`s professional soccer league.
Six women who met through the Academy found common cause in writing about their mothers and mothering, stories and poems that shine a light on each of their significant differences in experiences and outcomes. From their collaboration came Mother Load: Memoirs of Struggle and Strength, published in December 2022 by Demeter Press.

It was sad news to hear that Wally Posner had died November 18, 2022. Wally is perhaps best remembered by the Academy as the facilitator of the Jazz Appreciation workshop.
