New this year!

Film reels unravelling

Devoted film buffs want to share their love of fine films by viewing them together and having great discussions about them. This in-person workshop is designed for just that.

The 12 films will be chosen by Workshop members and the Co-facilitators. The films will be drawn from the list of 100 Best Films as ranked by the critically acclaimed 2022 Sight and Sound poll conducted by the British Film Institute (BFI). The films will be rented from Bay Street Video. Each participant must contribute to cover these rental costs, expected to total less than $10 per person.

Can we do this within the usual two-hour window of the Academy workshops? Nope. Instead, the Curriculum Committee has provided a four-hour block of time for this Workshop. This will allow time for one or two members to briefly introduce the film, then for all to view the film together, and discuss it for an hour or more after the credits roll.

Facilitators

Carol Ann Witt loves to watch good films and talk about them with other film buffs. She bets you do, too. She is not a film professional – far from it – but she does have some skills in communication. Carol Ann undertakes to use those skills to facilitate lively and congenial discussion about the films we watch.

Irv Ash was raised on films attending them at an early age and thereafter spending a large part of the succeeding years in the dark. Irv has estimated seeing over 15,000 movies both at theatres and on TV and both is lucky and, in some cases, cursed in remembering most of them. Taking courses on film and reading many books in the area, Irv looks forward to sharing insights and encouraging discussion about movies.
