Atlas focused on the country of China

China’s rise coupled with “America First” are fundamentally changing the dynamics of the world order. Canadian alliances and trade have been tied to the U.S. for decades.

Recent events suggest that even with a “reprieve” from tariffs, the status quo with the U.S. may not be tenable or advantageous for Canada on the not-too-distant future. This workshop will consider these challenges and evaluate their implications for Canada. It will also explore potential options and opportunities in relation to China, the U.S. and Asia.

Rick Guisso has facilitated numerous Academy workshops on China, Japan and the Middle East since retiring from the University of Toronto. Over the past decade, he has led an annual month-long study tour for students to different parts of China. Post-pandemic, he hopes to return to China.
