New this year!

Food for Thought… Feast your minds on the variety of food topics. Salivate over salacious details uncovering the dirty secrets of the food industry. Delve into the power of advertising. Consider the positive and negative effects food has on our lives. Food is central to everyone whether it is festivals, celebrations, or ceremonies.
Participants will prepare a presentation of 20-25 minutes, so that there is plenty of time for discussion. This is a fall one-term and in-person workshop.
Here are a few suggestions for possible workshop presentations: The politics of food, poverty, and hunger, Foods from around the world, Celebrity chefs, Food in art/literature/music, Food shows, Food rituals, Food as medicine, Food fads/diets and nutrition, Eating disorders, Obscure and interesting ingredients/recipes… the list is endless!
Join us and let’s talk about food. Bon Appetit.
Facilitators
Eva Krangle had a long career in public education, teaching a variety of subjects. She “retired” into a new vocation as a lay adjudicator with the Federal Government of Canada, and later the Law Society of Ontario Discipline Tribunal. Eva loves cooking and entertaining and believes in the adage “you are what you eat”. This is her fifth year at the Academy.
Sarah Butler is a retired teacher starting her second year at the Academy. Sarah finds food a very interesting topic and spends a lot of time watching food shows, learning about historical food topics, and educating herself on the industrialization and processing of food. She is a pretty good cook and likes to try challenging recipes now that she is retired! Sarah looks forward to hearing many different ideas and perspectives!
