The Academy for Lifelong Learning Toronto (ALLTO) offers a full program of workshops / courses, talks / lectures, walks, clubs and social events for seniors and older adults who want to be part of an active community of later life learners. Established in 1991, the core value of the Academy is peer learning. Our workshops / courses are offered in-person and online via Zoom.

Confirmations
You will receive confirmation by email in late June. If there are problems with the workshops you select, you’ll hear from Membership by email.
New Members
Three spaces in each workshop will be reserved for new members until Randomization in June. After that date, any available spaces will be allocated to those on the waiting lists.
Over-subscribed Workshops
On June 2, the names of applicants for any over-subscribed workshops will be randomized. This allows for an equitable distribution of applicants to determine membership in the workshop and a waitlist sequence.
The randomization is organized in such a way that:
- No Member is randomized out of an oversubscribed workshop more than once;
- Members select workshops in order of preference, where possible, no member is randomized out of his/her first choice.
Waitlisted?
If you are waitlisted, you will be contacted to see whether you wish to remain on that waitlist or would rather choose another workshop. Registrations received after randomization for over-subscribed workshops will be added to the end of the waitlist.
Cancelled Workshops
A minimum number of five participants is required for a workshop to proceed. Applicants will be contacted before the beginning of the term if their workshop does not meet that minimum number.
The Academy also offers several forums throughout the year. These two-hour sessions provide an opportunity for members and guests to hear presentations on a wide range of topics and to interact with one another in an informal learning environment.
The Distinguised Speaker Series are held Wednesday mornings from April to May. The DSS feature well-known experts who present on a broad range of topics for members and guests.
Several special interest groups meet online via Zoom to discuss various topics:
The Academy offers several guided walks throughout the year. Members meet year round to explore Toronto’s neighbourhoods and connect over lunch.
Opportunities abound to volunteer and connect with vibrant communities at the Academy.
Refunds will not be given after September 30.
