New this year!

In 1904, Canada’s Prime Minister, Wilfred Laurier, predicted that “the 20th century will be the century of Canada.” Looking back at the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, what do we think of Sir Wilfrid’s prediction? What does Canada’s twentieth century look like from this vantage point in the 21st century?

The purpose of this workshop is to consider Canada in the 20th century. Participants are invited to make a presentation of 15 to 20 minutes in length and to join in discussion on any aspects of Canada’s 20th century that are of interest to them. The topics can range from political to the military to social and cultural issues. Canada’s twentieth century encompassed many notable events and many extraordinary personalities. Any of these can be a topic for learning and conversation in this workshop. Each workshop session will consist of presentations and discussion on two topics.

This workshop offers an opportunity for participants to learn more about Canada’s unique history at a time when Canada’s sovereignty is being challenged.
